Manistee Fishing Report: May 2015

Paul Schlafley

T he lake fishing boats are just being brought out of storage and getting ready to be put in for fishing on Lake Michigan. It’s been a long winter, and everyone is ready for a change of pace. Brown trout are just starting to show up on the shoreline in 10-20 feet of water. Getting some steelhead and lake trout also.

Rapala and spoons have been the best, bright orange colors, and black/gold have also been good. Fishing high lines, and one to two color leads on inline Church planer boards should be good for browns and lakers into May and then the kings should start showing up when the water temperatures warm up. In the Manistee River, steelhead are still running, the run was late this year. Steelhead in the river should last till about the middle of May.
