The Sailfish Point flats have been hit and miss on pompano. Sometimes the outgoing tide is better than the incoming tide but every day is different with pompano. Yellow or pink jigs with light leader bounced across the bottom will put fish in the box. Fishing for trout and reds has been consistent from Middle Cove to Bear Point. Good top-water plugs to throw at first light are Skitterwalks, Zara Spooks and D.O.A. Bait Busters. Switch over to soft plastic jigs when the sun comes up. We should start seeing more baitfish on the flats so keep your eyes on the lookout for any action. Structure is the key component for snook fishing in the St. Lucie River. Bridges, docks seawalls are great staging areas for big snook. Drifting jig and live shrimp combos around the bridge pilings and fenders is a good start to the day. Flipping the docks deep under the planking’s where it’s nice and dark will get you hooked up with a snook or red. Tight drags on good reels are a must for this style of fishing. Black drum and croaker are still hanging around the bridges and are eating clam strips and dead shrimp. I have seen a lot of ribbonfish around the bridges while fishing for drum. Cobia are showing up on the beach and reefs this month and will graciously charge on a mullet or greenie. Keep the waterways clean and wear your Bullfrog.
