Martin County Offshore Fishing Forecast – April 2013

Weather during the month of April in South Florida is great and fishing is even better. Specifically in Stuart, Florida waters, the fishing is super for dolphin, wahoo, and tuna if you desire to target pelagics; and the bottom fishing is outstanding for snapper, grouper and cobia. Unfortunately, grouper season is still closed until May 1st but the catch and release fishing is great. April marks the peak of cobia season and there are many ways to target them. Idling along the beach and sight-fishing is a preferred method by many anglers. We also find cobia following manta rays and are able to cast to these fish following the “bats”. The third method used would be bottom fishing inshore reefs and wrecks where large numbers of cobia gather during the spring migration. April is also the kick-off month to yellowfin tuna season on the east side of the Gulf Stream. Stuart offers one of the closest ports to the tuna grounds via the St. Lucie Inlet when targeting them from the East Coast of Florida. Tuna fishing will be great April through August.
