July and August Costa Rica FAD Fishing Forecast

Early season FAD fishing shows great promise for the upcoming season. We expect July-September to be the best of the best for fishing the Costa Rica off shore FADs for Blue Marlin. Conditions are shaping up to be excellent this year, and we expect epic numbers of Blue Marlin to come to the wire for fishermen lucky enough to get there.

One, two and three day trips will be offered by several operators to a variety of FADs ranging from about 80 miles from Los Suenos to over 140 miles out. These FADs are mature, and were producing healthy numbers of 200 to 450lb Blues with a mix of occasional Stripes and Sails to round out a very possible GRAND SLAM.

As of mid-May, several boats have reported double digit days for Blues. Mid-May also produced some very large yellow fin tuna to nearly 300lbs with multiple large fish on a single trip.

Operators are offering different trips from 24 hours to as long as you want to stay out there. Early morning fishing has proven to be the best production with several boats reporting as many as 10 blues by 8am. Calm water with occasional rain make the fishing very pleasant if you have time to be aware of the conditions. We expect some of the very best marlin fishing ever experienced anywhere to be available off the Central Pacific Coast of Costa Rica through at least the end of September this year.
