Playas del Coco Fishing Forecast May 2015

Jumper

Greetings from Costa Rica’s Northern Pacific Coast & welcome to the first edition of the Offshore Report for the waters off Guanacaste province. We are Rick & Jamie of Dream On Sport Fishing. From here on out we will be bringing you a report every edition of Coastal Angler Magazine-Costa Rica Edition. We will let you in on what’s biting, what they’re biting, why and where. First of all we are happy to report that the summer Guanacaste fishing season is ramping up nicely.

There has been a marked temperature increase off shore and inshore waters are now above 80 deg. For offshore that means an influx of the baitfish with the Marlin right behind! Just yesterday retiring charter boat owner Randy S. fought a 4-500 pound Marlin for over an hour only to have it break off 20 feet from the boat! Enjoy retirement Randy! Captains have been reporting that the Tuna bite is on! Many local boats have been landing tuna in the 25 pound range but we haven’t heard of any monsters yet. We’re heading out on the Dream On tomorrow to find a hog! The 80 degree water inshore means get ready for some Rooster Fish action! Nothing like seeing the tell-tale Rooster dorsal sticking up through surface. As our ‘Green Season’ gets going full swing we will keep you posted as to what’s going on in our neck of the woods here in the Coco/Ocotal/Hermosa waters.

Pura Vida!
