From The Publisher – April 2018

Coastal Angler Miami - April 2018Welcome to the April issue of Coastal Angler Miami. For the last 18 months, my wife Kim and I have published Coastal Angler Fort Lauderdale. When the opportunity to acquire the Miami market presented itself, we just couldn’t say no. There’s no doubt both markets share a unique fishery and utilize many of the same techniques. It’s our plan to leverage both markets to provide the best possible content for our readers and an unbeatable value for our advertisers. Rest assured that we are in this for the long haul and will do our very best to provide the most up to date fishing and boating information each month.

On to fishing. April is here and with it comes some of the best fishing of the year. Drop a live pilchard or slab of bonito on one of our many local wrecks to get hooked up with a reef donkey. Plenty of sailfish will be around on days with windy conditions and will eat just about any live bait you throw at them. Bigger blackfin tunas will be biting in the early morning and late afternoon. Live chum with pilchards and they will come right to the boat. April also kicks off dolphin season. On calm days, you may have to run and gun offshore a bit to find them, but if the wind is blowing from the east, they will be closer to the beach. Pull small bullet style lures and feathers around birds, weed or floating debris to find them. Don’t forget a few spinning rods and some fresh chunked bait to keep them around the boat when you find them.

Keep reelin,
