The rain throughout the coastal counties will bring heavy aquatic vegetation to all the river systems along the Mississippi Coast. Although it can make fishing tough at times the rain is very important in providing a healthy ecosystem for bass to thrive. The spawn should take place in late stages through April. Don’t be discouraged for there will be some heavy females still lurking in the shallow bays and bayous away from hard flowing water, such as creeks. While out fishing keep an eye out for any movement in skinny water and for bass “fry” moving along the surface. The sign of fry will usually mean the male bass is close by and ready to attack anything in its path. April is a great month to introduce newbies to the world of bass fishing, so take the time and invite a friend or co-worker for a fun day on the bayou. You may end up with a fishing buddy for life!
Think safety when out on the narrow river and bayous and as always be courteous to other vessels nearby.
