Judy Amos caught this 28 lbs Ling Cod in Santa Monica Bay.
I was on the Spitfire out of Marina del Rey. We were drifting on the last drop of the day. The current took my 10 oz weight further and further away. I felt a jerk, tried to turn the handle and couldn’t. I thought I was stuck on the bottom, then line started peeling off the spool. “We’re not drifting that fast,” I thought, and put a little more effort into turning the turner. I was shaking long before I saw it! When I look at the pictures, I can’t believe how lucky I was to catch such a big fish! However, final thanks must go to deckhand John Corzel, who skillfully gaffed the beast and brought it aboard!!
