Old Salt Fishing Foundation is holding their annual Kids Fishing Slam on May 3rd, 2019, at the Spring King of the Beach Kingfish Tournament. This family event is designed to accommodate children of all ages. The first 500 kids on the field will receive goody bags and fishing rods to take home. So, pack up the kids and head to Madeira Beach on Friday May 3rd for some fun seawall fishing.
The event presents a wonderful opportunity to teach your kids how to fish. Moms, don’t be intimidated. Old Salt will have plenty of experienced volunteers standing by to make this a fun and educational outing. We also provide bait, hooks and weights along with our friendly volunteer fisherman to make this easy and fun. The free rods will come ready with line and rigged for fishing.
Best of all, the Kids Fishing Slam is open to the public and admission is free.
The fishing competition is divided into four age groups. This keeps it fair and fun for everyone. There are two heats with each heat lasting 45 minutes. The object is to catch the most inches of fish. So, the more you catch, the better the chance to win. Everything except crabs and stingrays will count. After the fish is measured, the angler (your kid) will release it back into the water. Kids do not have to fish both heats. There are prizes for the top three in each age category for each heat. Awards will be presented around 8pm.
Stay and enjoy the festival. The Kids Fishing Slam is held in conjunction with the King of the Beach Tournament and Festival. There are over 80 vendors onsite. Local food, marine art, apparel and boat displays are open to the public. IGFA (International Game Fish Association) will be onsite with lots of valuable information. The gates will open at 5pm and close at 10pm.
The Old Salt Fishing Foundation has a mission to get kids out fishing. What better way than to put rods in kids’ hands. Come out and support this great organization. They are always in need of volunteers–it’s a great way to give back.
