On the Range: Sept. 2020

Empty…..check back next fall, maybe.

Well, here we go again! Firearms industry sales are back up. They are now equal to, and in some cases, dramatically more than one of the highest times, in 2012 after the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting.

Between Covid 19, the ongoing unrest in major cities, the defund the police movement, and the upcoming elections; dealers and distributors are on the empty mark of the tank with certain items.

The major hitters are self-defense oriented handguns, AR-15 style rifles, and the more popular ammunition of 9mm and 5.56mm.

Buyers are purchasing these items along with the accessories that go along with them. With this recent spike in demand, the supply of ammunition and certain types of firearms is just not there right now. It also may be awhile before they can even meet the demand. The manufacturers are at full capacity, but they just cannot produce fast enough. Just to give you an idea, one of the major ammunition manufacturers has stated that there are outstanding orders totaling 80 billion rounds. Yes, 80 billion with a “B”. It was stated to us that it may take up to 5 years to get the supply back where it once was. That is if nothing else happens. If you want to control firearms you don’t control the guns you control the ammo supply, and people know that now.

If you are in the market for a specific firearm you may be waiting for it.  Beggars can’t be choosers right now, you may have to make do with something else or go with your second choice. When people come in, we tell them “what we have in the case right now is it for right now. What’s here today may not be here tomorrow or the weeks after.”
