Teen Kayaker Rescued After Spending 12 Hours Lost At Sea Off Hawaii’s Coast

A 17-year-old kayaker spent about 12 hours clinging to his kayak after becoming separated from his high school group, according to the U.S. Coast Guard. Coast Guard video shows the moment he was rescued by an off-duty lifeguard who happened to be nearby.

Using a soft plastic lure, Dante Piraino of Baldwinsville, Onondaga County, reeled in a nine-pound smallmouth bass from the St. Lawrence River while fishing in a bass tournament hosted in the city of Ogdensburg, St. Lawrence County. The record-breaking “smallie,” caught in 30 feet of water, surpassed the previous state record caught from Cayuga Lake in 2022 by eight ounces.

Hurricane Milton: US Coast Guard Rescues Man Clinging To Cooler Miles Off The Gulf Coast

The US Coast Guard has rescued a man who was found clinging to a floating cooler 30 miles from Longboat Key, a barrier island off the coast of the Manatee County / Sarasota area. Officials have not named the man, but said he is the captain of a fishing vessel. Officials estimated that the captain experienced approximately 75-90mph winds and 20-25ft seas.
