Panacea Fishing Forecast: Sept 2013

panacea
Well August has come and gone and even though fishing has been affected by the rain and runoff inshore, the offshore fishing has still been active for those that journey further out. The bait schools are steadily getting crushed by kingfish, mackeral, cobia, sharks and other predators.Gag and red grouper are being caught in good numbers on live and dead bait from 30-60 feet. The Federal grouper season is open until December 3rd but remember when returning back through State waters in Franklin, Wakulla, Jefferson, Taylor & Monroe counties all gear must be stowed and no fishing stops can be made.

As always there are some redfish cruising the oyster bars and mullet schools. Some have been up in the 40 inch range. The trout bite continues to be slow but should be picking up as the floating grasses clear out and water clarity improves. In the mean time try live pin fish under a Cajun thunder to help the fish locate your hook. As always……take a kid fishing, keep your rods bent and tight lines!
