[dropcap]W[/dropcap]ell, the weather can’t seem to make up its mind. The fish are confused too. If there are several days that are below 50 degrees and the water temperature drops,everything starts moving up river. When it heats back up they travel back toward the bay. It is safe to say to fish deep and/or slow for the best results.

Live bait (shrimp & mud minnows)and gulps are getting the most consistent results. Sheepshead are also biting on the oyster bars around Oklocknee River and under the bridge but you may have to change to a smaller hook for success. The gags are on the shallow structure in 12-20 feet trolling stretch 25s or 30s or dropping live bait if it can be found are catching what would be limits of fish. Remember they must be released until the season opens again next year.NEW: At the September meeting, the FWC Commission eliminated the February 1 through March 31 grouper closure for black, red, yellowfin, yellowmouth, rock hind, red hind, and scamp. These species of grouper are now open year-round in state waters of the Gulf.

Drink some coffee or hot chocolate and dress for the conditions but enjoy the winter on the water in Florida Bay and remember take a kid fishing to educate them on the outdoor life style!
