[dropcap]J[/dropcap]une is gonna rock! The bait fish have shown up, the rain has slowed down and the flats are heating up! All around Piney Island and Oyster Bay red fish and trout are whacking top water plugs like bone colored super spooks and sucking up all kinds of live bait under popping corks pretty much as fast as you can cast. Pinfish, mullet, greenies and LY’s will be caught on either sabiki rigs or by cast nets to load your livewells and start catching. Flounder have been eating and will continue being caught in large numbers.

Captain Steve’s Tip of the Month – when using any kind of hook, jig or lure try using a loop knot to maximize the movement of your bait…tie a half-hitch in your line, run it thru the eye of the hardware and back thru the loop and then tie another half hitch, cinch it to the size loop you want and trim the finished line. This enhances the wobble of your lure or jig!
