Panacea Fishing Report

My favorite time of year has arrived. Temperatures are finally starting to stabilize so the spring fishing patterns can happen the way they are supposed to. Trout have moved to the flats and are hungry…reds are cruising in gangs and eating aggressively…Water temps are hovering in the mid to upper 70’s so the dinner bells are ringing and topwater action is heating up also. Throw a bone colored One-knocker or floating Mirrolure and it will probably get knocked out of the water or inhaled, so you can stretch some line. A live shrimp or gulp shrimp under a popping cork will always work and keep someone busy with the landing net.

April 1st Gag grouper opened in state waters and a lot of activity is happening. Different species are being caught around areas like Rotary reef such as sheephead, gag grouper, flounder and pink mouth grunts.

As the bait schools show up, the flats and offshore reefs will really heat up. Exciting trips will be common. Take a kid fishing, cover up, wear sunscreen and be safe out there!
