Got to see this Sea Lion! Watch a 35 pound Dorado get stolen out of the chef’s hands during the filming of our new show Chef on the Water. Pancho, weighing nearly a ton and blind in his left eye, is still young enough to make the leap onto the back of the boat and steal the huge fish with a precision strike without even a scratch on the hand of Chef Yvan Mucharraz of Capella Pedregal.
In early October, after a full day on the water in Cabo San Lucas Mexico, we were posing for pictures of our two Dorado, also known as Mahi-Mahi and Dolphin fish, when Pancho, a frequent visitor of the marina decided it was dinner time. Pancho regularly hangs out waiting for bait scraps from the captains as they return to the docks. We’ve never witnessed such a bold steal from Pancho. Some see the video and say how “cute” it is, but Pancho is just surviving. His instinct is to get food as easily as he can. He can’t hunt and take care of himself as easily in the wild as he used to and he now relies on easier prey from unsuspecting victims. So while Pancho enjoyed his dinner, Chef Yvan had to cut his recipe in half since he was to prepare both fish for his challenge on the Chef on the Water episode we were filming. Good thing he caught two! You can view the “steal” at www.asobonline.com.
