Playas del Coco Fishing Forecast April and May 2016

Playas del Coco

Hello Anglers! The windy season has really stirred up the water and it’s been great to see a 4-degree drop in water temperatures. The fishery for Sailfish has been getting better and better with April-May marking the start of the peak season for us. Marlin have been consistent as well and should continue to be so from here on. Roosterfish and Dorado are already coming up huge and they’re still growing.

Maybe we’ll see a world record this summer! The current world record Mahi is 102 pounds. It was caught last year near Cabo shattering the previous Costa Rica held record of 87 pounds caught right here in Golfo Papagayo where we fish. The world record Roosterfish is currently 114 pounds and with us already pulling in 70+ pounders it would not surprise me to see that record get broken in Costa Rican waters. We’ve taken a few Wahoo already which is a little early so it could end up being a great Wahoo season once their numbers peak in April-May. All in all what we’re seeing now is indicating we could be in for a great season.

Until next time anglers…tight lines & Pura Vida
