Playas del Coco Fishing Forecast July/August 2015

Playas del Coco Fishing
Any day with a wahoo is a good day.

Playas del Coco fishing in July announces the return of marlin in large numbers with the season peaking in August and September. For the most part you want to be 20-50 miles out trolling with ballyhoos although the right lure will produce big fish as well. Like the marlin, the wahoo season really gets rolling July/August although they too can be had year round. You’ll want to troll fast around offshore structure like the rocky islands you’ll find everywhere here…10-20 miles out is best. These fish are aggressive and will bite almost anything that’s why you can hit them while fishing for many other species. 20-50 pound fish are normal but they can get much larger. Have a steel leader on or you’ll likely lose your gear! The sailfish action is good as always, yellowfin tuna are being caught and the big ones should start showing up soon. Try trolling ballyhoos for both, 10-30 miles out. Deeper trolling for the tuna is recommended as is live bait. Don’t forget not to boat those sailfish. If you want a picture take one over the side and avoid boating the fish. See you next issue!
