Repowering Your Boat

(Part One)

[dropcap]A[/dropcap] common question that is asked us is, “should I repower my boat?” Several factors can affect this decision. How old is your boat and more importantly what is its condition? If the overall condition of the boat and trailer is good, it is worth repowering. Ask yourself, “Do you really like your current boat?” If a year in the future you decide that you don’t care for the boat and want to sell, it’s likely that you won’t get enough money out of the sale to cover what was paid for the new motor. Another point to consider, is the type of motor that is available today. Most older boats came standard with two-stroke motors and modern two-strokes are only available in limited models. Most new motors are now four-stoke motors which are heavier and larger than two-strokes, even at the same horse power. Therefore, consider if your boat can handle the extra weight and size of a four-stroke.

After contemplating all these factors, if you’re your answer is, yes, than repowering your boat is definitely an option for you.
