RV Camping Fishing At Everglades National Park
If you are considering a camping fishing/RV vacation in Florida, Flamingo in Everglades National Park is an experience like no other. A visitor center is located at the campground, with a concession for canoe and kayak rentals at the marina, along with a store. The marina has a ramp to launch your vessel to access the backcountry or another ramp to access Florida Bay, with incredible camping fishing in either direction.
Flamingo has several hiking and canoe trails. More than 300 species of birds visit Everglades National Park, and you may see crocodiles, manatees and tarpon in the marina area where you can find boat rentals, tour boats and the Buttonwood Cafe.
Reservations are accepted through Reserve America Nov. 20-April 15 but are not required in the off-season months (April 16-Nov.19). There are 234 drive-up sites, and 55 of those have a view of the Florida Bay. Located on the southern tip of the Florida peninsula, sites are $20 a night for campsites with no electrical hookups and $30 a night for the 41 sites with electric. The last time I stayed at Flamingo there were places with A/C to rent, so I can’t imagine someone visiting during the summer without an RV. There is typically a strong breeze that blows off the bay, but I would imagine sleeping in a tent would not be ideal. The campgrounds feature solar-heated showers, two dump stations, picnic tables, grills and an amphitheater for winter programs.
Keith Waits, owner of Palm Beach RV, says the RV lifestyle is like no other. The opportunity for family bonding is incredible. You just can’t experience it in a hotel or on a plane. Imagine relaxing with a cup of coffee in the morning under the awning while you watch your child catch a fish with the birds and wildlife surrounding you. Catch a sunset and spend the evening fireside, toasting marshmallows and reflecting on the day’s activities with the family. That must be special. It’s not about the electronics or devices!
You don’t have to spend a lot of money to get into an RV. Keith says their top seller is the Grand Design Imagine travel trailer, which he offers for as little as $239 per month with no money down, including tax, tags and title for qualifying buyers. This unit can be towed with any ½ ton truck or SUV with a weight distribution hitch and brake controller. The Grand Design has taller ceilings, better insulation, better tires and better axles then their basic RV. Palm Beach RV is the only dealer in South Florida that offers the lifetime warrant on all new models and pre-owned units two model years or newer at no cost to you.
