Fort Pierce Fishing Report and Forecast – October 2012

INSHORE

The inshore fishing should be great this month with the fall mullet run in full swing. Look for lots of snook, tarpon, big jacks and other fish that will be following the mullet in the Fort Pierce Inlet. The trout fishing should also be good for anglers fishing topwater baits or a live finger mullet. Try around the spoil islands for the trout. The redfish bite should also be good around the deeper edges of the flats and around the docks. Try using cut ladyfish or a gold spoon. The snook fishing in the Fort Pierce Inlet and around the local bridges should be best on the tide changes. I would suggest using a live bait or a Flair Hawk and bounce it along the bottom. The snapper action will remain steady along the channel edges when using a live shrimp or a small white bait.

OFFSHORE

The offshore fishing will be on the slow side except for along the beaches when the schools of mullet are there. Look for snook, tarpon, jacks, sharks and a kingfish or two to be following the bait schools. There may be a few scattered dolphin for anglers trolling ballyhoo in 90 to 120 feet of water. Look for a wahoo or tuna on the days that the anglers can fish out deep and troll fast. The bottom fishing will be a day to day thing and will depend on the sea conditions.
