Nothing But Hookin’

It’s that time when the redfish are going to start schooling up in the shallow water areas. Be ready to throw dead bait up ahead of the pods of reds. Also, if you can get there early in the morning, throw some topwater baits and enjoy the blow up!

When using the dead bait, we prefer a Mustad Demon perfect 2/0 or 3/0 circle hook. Our reel choice is going to be the awesome Florida Fishing reel products–Resolute Rugged Saltwater Spinning Reel size 3000 or 4000. We typically use 20-pound braid and 20-pound fluorocarbon leader. I’m going to include this product code for you guys to save some money. You can buy the hooks direct from Mustad online POCKETCHANGE25. This will give you 25% off your order.

The mackerel bite has been on fire using a long shank hook with 30-pound leader.  Seems like the ticket is that we’ve been free lining cut bait in the current behind the boat. Also, remember September is going to be a good month for cobia to start showing up. Fish, the outer edges of the grass flats, either with live pin fish or threadfin herring
