[dropcap]T[/dropcap]here’s plenty of fish to be caught in December. Cold fronts will drop the water temperature and stack the Spanish macs down at Peck Lake. For fast action and a good fight on light tackle, Spanish Macs are the ticket this time of year. A fast action 7-foot rod with 12-pound main line and 60-pound leader with a 3/8-ounce green First Light Minnow jig is all you need to load the fish box (15 per angler). In the surf bluefish will be feeding on anything that moves. A Krocodile Spoon with a single hook or cut bait on the bottom will catch many blues in a short period of time. Drift the Sailfish Point flats for pompano and look for skippers. The skippers will indicate pompano are in the area so fan cast and hope for the best. The old reliable Docs Goofy jig in yellow with a pink skirt usually will get them. The relief bridge on the causeways is also a hot spot on the right tide change. The old Ten Cent bridge rubble is a good spot for croaker and black drum and get thick in the winter time. Keep it simple with a jig head and live shrimp or cut clam on a knocker rig. In the Indian River the trout and redfish bite should remain strong. Slow up your retrieve on the jig bounce and work the deeper side of the pot holes and cuts. The D.O.A. Shad Tail in root beer with gold glitter # 411 is a go-to bait on my boat. If, the water temps dip below 70 to 72, it will slow down the snook bite but they still can be caught in the deeper section of the river especially around the bridges with a 1.5- to 2.0-ounce First Light jig bounced just off the bottom. Hope you get that new rod and reel from Santa for Christmas.
Keep the waterways clean and wear your sunscreen.
