Tackle Upgrade

Upgrading your tackle is probably one of the quickest ways to begin enjoying fishing faster and it can make you a better fisherman. If you’re just getting started in coastal fishing by all means, get whatever you can get your hands on to get out on the water. But once you are there, one of the fastest ways to begin ‘upping your game’ is a reel upgrade.

First, you’ll cast further and be able to use lighter lures. This will help you cover more water, and lighter lures act more naturally in the water column. Second, it’s just hard for a gamefish to resist a meal when it naturally suspends in the water column.

You don’t have to break the bank to begin working your way up quickly in technology either. Take for example the Lew’s Speed Spool. It has nine double shielded premium stainless steel ball bearings, brass gears, and a magnetic cast control system. At $100 right out of the box, it will be able to increase your cast distance, and you’ll be able to throw lighter lures.

Now the next step up would be the Lew’s BB1 Inshore, if you are going to wade the surf, put your reel down on sandy shores, or you’re just generally rough on equipment. Then the Inshore would get the call from the bullpen. Remember all reels need proper care and preparation for fishing in saltwater environments; but with the proper care, these reels will put a lot of fish on the line.
