FORECAST By: Capt. Jake Davis Early morning and late evening smallmouth action continued over the past month. But the best bite has been night fishing with spinnerbaits and soft plastics. September brings us some exciting times as we start catching more and more smallmouths on topwater lures such SPRO Dawg 100s, Pop-Rs and buzzbaits from early ’til mid-morning and again in the evenings. Anglers will find water temperatures that range from 76 to 80 degrees. Concentrate early on mainlake points working your way back into pockets a short distance. Football-head jigs, Little John DD crankbaits, swimbaits and finesse baits rigged on Spot Removers should all produce good fish this month. Probing deeper points and flats with SPRO Little John DD crankbaits and Tightline Football Head jigs is a great way to locate a monster fish.
