[dropcap]T[/dropcap]he boats left the docks from Capt. Joe’s Bait & Tackle just before daylight and returned just before noon. The wind picked up as the morning grew older, but not enough to disrupt the tournament.
During the tournament, there was a first for Michael Rochedieu; he caught and released his first snook! Snook was one of the fish on the tournament’s list but it had to be a legal fish. Michael’s fish was short, but the excitement of catching his first snook outweighed any disappointment in not having the fish count. Michael, who fished with boat volunteer Chad Painter, did go on to catch several other fish that were just short, or not on the list.
Senior division anglers Colt Krischke and Ty Walker fished with Capt. Charlie Connor. Colt had a snapper to weigh and Ty had two croakers, with one coming in at 1.12-pounds. Andrew Evans, who fished aboard his aunt’s (Anna Green) boat, brought in two snappers and one sheepshead, which weighed 1.12-pounds. Kaitlyn Ward fished on her dad’s (Capt Rob Ward) boat. After spending much of the morning picking up items from the lost cargo containers that could hinder boats in the waterway, she did manage to catch two sheepshead with the biggest one weighing 1.14-pounds.
