Treasure Coast Dive Forecast – July 2013

July is going to be the month of “Lobsters and Lions”. Mark your calendar, get out your tickle sticks, snares, and lobster hotels. This year minilobster season is Wednesday, July 24th and Thursday, the 25th. We have been seeing a ton of very nice size bugs all over the place. Reefs that for the last few years have had had none or just a few lobsters dwelling on them are loaded this year. Last week I was diving in West Palm Beach on Paul’s Reef and was very surprised to see as many as I did. The bugs on the Treasure Coast are of a great size. We have come across some true dragons out there. The one thing I hope all will remember is to please be careful out there. Almost every year we hear of a tragedy or two during mini-season, so use prudent judgment and some caution. Stuart SCUBA will be running all of our boats (five now) for morning, afternoon and night trips both days. Call to reserve your spots early.

Now for the Lions—a true menace to our area. Martin County Artificial Reef is having their annual Lionfish Round Up and Reef Builders Fishing Tournament on July 13 and will be giving prizes for smallest, largest, and most lionfish.

For more information, call Stuart Scuba at (772) 600-8288 or Betty at (772) 223-1685. As always we hope to see you under the boat.
