Upper Pere Marquette Fishing Report: Nov. 2013

With unseasonable warm fall weather the king salmon fishing is fading fast on the Pere Marquette River. The majority of fish have spawned. Look for steelhead and coho fishing to pick up in the next month, especially if we receive some rain. The river right now is dropping fast and clearing. We are seeing a few steelhead throughout the whole river system.

For the fly fishing angler try an assortment of eggs under an indicator. Eggs such as Nuke’s or small Clown Eggs in more natural hues, Burnt Orange, Salmon Roe, and Oregon Cheese are doing well. If you enjoy a more traditional approach try Swinging Steelhead with a Sink Tip. Steelhead Flies on the swing, try smaller Baitfish patterns in Olive or smaller Leech patterns in Black. Hopefully we will start having a normal fall with cooler nights and some rain, with this we should see more fish. Please protect our future of a wild fishery, practice catch and release.
