Venice Inshore: July 2014

[dropcap]T[/dropcap]he days are heating up, and so is the fishing. We have been seeing a much more consistent trout bite. Areas like Breton Island, Blind Bay, and South Pass have produced nice limits of trout. We have seen some nice trout come back to the dock. Some 5, 6, 7, and have also heard of a few 8 pound trout coming in. The trout have constantly been on the move. We might catch them in one spot for a couple days, and then have to hunt them somewhere else the next day. You might have to keep moving around, even returning to the same spot until you find them. We have had more success fishing away from the canes, where points used to stick out. The stubble under moving water make perfect ambush points. The majority of trout were caught on live shrimp, 2-3 ft under a cork.

Redfish have been found in their typical locations. The end of SW Pass, Blind Bay, and Yarititch have produced plenty of redfish. Dead shrimp and gulps have worked successfully.
