Venice Offshore Fishing Forecast: Aug 2013

Tuna, wahoo, mahi-mahi, snapper, grouper, cobia — it’s all been hitting the dock in Venice this summer.

The past few Saturdays, tuna carcasses piled knee high at the cleaning station have been the norm. Anglers have also been topping off the boxes with their fair share of grouper and snapper. The Marlin bite continues to be incredible, whether trolling rip lines or floaters, they seem to be everywhere. Hopefully things will continue like this until the fall, when we turn our attention to targeting large yellowfin tuna behind the shrimp boats. The rip lines are holding small hard tails, and some of the floaters have discos on them. Live baiting while casting poppers is always a great choice for tuna fishing during the summer months in the Gulf. Amberjack is set to re-open August 1. It will be nice to top off the catch with a few of the infamous reef donkey’s once again. Jigging or live baiting large hard tails has been our tried-and- true method for harvesting these species.

School days are approaching fast as summer will be coming to an end soon. Get your college buddies together before you have to hit the books again and come visit us down in Venice. That goes for the Dads as well. Come on down with the boys, or wait till the kids are in school and come with your friends. Of course, the ladies are always welcome.

We have been busy helping make life long memories for those who have caught their first Yellowfin, and gone through the tradition with us. Enjoy the rest of summer while it lasts.

Good luck and stay safe out there, Captain Brett Ryan
