The Indian River Penwa Huntresses chapter of the National Wild Turkey Federation (NWTF) will host its 7th annual Women in the Outdoors event on April 26- 27 at Quail Creek Plantation in Okeechobee, Florida.

Women in the Outdoors events, designed just for women age 13 and older, teach outdoor skills through interactive hands-on education, all emphasizing the importance of wildlife management and the role of hunters in conservation. A partial listing of workshop offerings for the weekend include basic and advanced archery, canoeing/ kayaking, outdoor photography, fishing on the fly, hand gun safety, shotgun/sporting clays, Cracker Living and Cowboy Roping, traditional swamp cabbage cooking, Dutch oven cooking, jewelry making, back woods buggy ride, duct tape totes, and hide and feathers hunting.

Registration fee is $75 and the event kicks off Friday (April 26) evening with an optional dinner and social ($25 per person)— Osceolas Under the Oaks—at Quail Creek, which includes dinner, a silent auction and campfire.

The NWTF is a national nonprofit conservation organization that was founded in 1973 and has worked with wildlife agencies to restore wild turkey populations from 1.3 million wild turkeys to nearly 7 million today. Now, NWTF’s volunteers raise funds and work daily to improve critical wildlife habitat, increase access to public hunting land and introduce new people to the outdoors and hunting. Together, the NWTF’s partners, sponsors and grassroots members have raised and spent more than $331 million preserving hunting heritage and conserving nearly 15.9 million acres of wildlife habitat.
