With the cruising season in full swing, is your vessel ready for all of the fun and adventure? To ensure an enjoyable and safe cruise visiting your favorite destination or the islands, Whiticar Boat Works recommends you review this basic checklist of safety and maintenance tips.
Safety Equipment – Ensure there are enough life jackets on board for all passengers and make certain they will have the correct size life jacket for their body weight. All fire systems and extinguishers should be the correct class for your vessel, and be recently inspected and properly stored. Ensure your life raft has been inspected and serviced, and verify the accuracy of your compass.
Fluid Systems – Check your fluid levels and inspect the engine room for fluid leaks. A small leak can quickly become a big leak, so be sure to include these items on your cruising checklist: coolant, drive lubricants, engine oil and filter, generator oil and filter, transmission oil and steering fluid.
Electrical Systems – When inspecting electrical connections, be on the lookout for corrosion – a sign that a connection may be unsafe. Routine checks of your battery are important to verify they will hold a charge. An appointment with a qualified technician to inspect your AC and DC electrical systems is the first step in preventative maintenance.
