Banana River Lagoon Report: July 2015

Redfish can be fooled with a little twitch-n-pause motion of your rod tip, and the right colored soft plastic jerk bait on most days.

If the waters in this lagoon stay relatively clear through the summer we may start to see good amounts of sea grass showing back up. If this happens look for redfish and trout to follow shortly thereafter in these areas. Slot sized trout should remain a good possibility on most days for those who are fishing around the 1000 Island area of Cocoa Beach and the Grand Canal area near Satellite Beach. Subsurface lures like the X-Rap series or the newly re- released Rapala Twichin’ Rap suspending lure can be effective especially in area where puffer fish are concentrated. If these blow fish are not causing a problem then try 4-5 inch assassin sea shad or straight tailed shad in clear with gold flake, Cajun Croaker, Opening Night or Albino colors. Live fingerling mullet are live hand-picked shrimp are also great live bait choices on most days.
