[dropcap]H[/dropcap]ope Town has been chosen by the Bahamas Sailing Association to host the Opti Nationals in October 2015.

Events will include an opening dinner on Friday evening, a Saturday “block party”, and Sunday awards ceremony and banquet for participating Junior Sailors, families, officials, and spectators.

The championships will bring up to 300 family and friends of the Opti sailors, as well as race officials and coaches, to Elbow Cay.

Hope Town’s Junior Sailors have been traveling to the National Championships each year – Nassau, Harbour Island, Freeport, Governor’s Harbour, Long Island. This time Hope Town will have the “home field advantage” and the community will benefit as well.

At least 75 Optis from all over the Bahamas are anticipated to race, organized into a Green Fleet for novices, and a Championship Fleet. The two fleets will have separate Race Committees, courses, mark boats, and rescue boats. Racing will be held in the general area between Tahiti Beach, White Sound, and Lubbers Quarters.

Sponsorship opportunities are available and fundraising efforts are underway, which include raffle tickets selling for $2 a piece or a book of 10 for $20. Prizes include a weekend at “Wee House” in Hope Town, electronics, gift certificates, boat adventures, airline tickets, artwork, jewelry and more. Tickets will be drawn on the last day of the regatta and one does not need to be present to win.
