NASSAU, BAHAMAS–The third annual Generations Junior Angler tournament was held in Nassau on November 9th. A benefit for Ranfurley Homes for Children, the tournament was a huge success with 80 kids fishing this year in spite of rough seas. The tournament’s goal is to bring families together with the youth from Ranfurly Homes for Children for a fun day on the water. This year there were 27 children from Ranfurly Homes, who fished with families.
Fishing took place from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., followed by a weigh-in and festivities the Green Parrot East Bay Street. Anglers were divided into two age groups: ages 4 to 12 and ages 13 to17, with a prize for the heaviest grunt, snapper, jack and turbot for each division. A top boat prize for the heaviest combined weight of each species was also awarded.
The Green Parrot supplied free burgers and hot dogs for the kids, Caribbean Bottling supplied free drinks and Ben & Jerry’s set up a free ice cream booth. Team “Reel Deal” won the Top Boat award for the second year in a row. Team Harbourside Marine came in second with Team Albany coming in third.
Every angler received a t-shirt, hat, medal and a gift certificate to the Sports Center. In addition, each age group/species winner received gift certificate to Hoffer Sports.
