The Stuart Sailfish Club recently announced the 63rd Light Tackle Tournament and the third-annual Florida Sailfish Amateur Championship to be held Dec. 8-11 at the prestigious Sailfish Point Marina on Hutchinson Island in Stuart, Fla.
Tournament Chair Thomas Dyer, who is also president of the Stuart Sailfish Club, is hoping to build on the success of last year’s tournament.
“We were sold out last year, and I expect that to happen again this year,” Dyer said. “This is one of Florida’s largest purses, and the event is taking place at a prestigious and private marina that many folks will never have the opportunity to fish from. We are honored that Sailfish Point will once again host this tournament.”
The Tournament will again hold two divisions of competitors, the Professional Division and an Amateur Division. This year’s Tournament will be limited to the first 30 entries in the Professional Division and the first 20 entries for the Amateur Division. The Professional Division will fish all three days and the Amateur Division selects fishing any two of the three days. The Calcutta for the Professional Division could reach $345,000 if all the professional boats participate and would be one of the largest purses in Florida.
