[dropcap]J[/dropcap]une is a great time for a trip to Bimini, whether you are a flats enthusiast or love the offshore waters. The flats of Bimini are loaded with bones in the range of 8- to 10-pounds, and some larger. As the summer sun heats up the waters, the fish will begin to seek deeper water in the heat of the day, so early mornings and late afternoons are your best bet for a hookup. Make sure that you target the edges of the flats and deeper channels. Moving water is the best so you want to seek an incoming tide. Permit are still a great target, as are barracuda. Tarpon will be in deeper water so adjust your tactics accordingly. Nearshore reefs will be holding lots of muttonfish, a mixed bag of snapper, and grouper. Cut conch, shrimp and sardines will work well as bait. Offshore, the wahoo have all vanished, and now tuna and mahi-mahi will be the targeted species. Watch for the tuna birds. Continually scan the horizon. Even a single bird can indicate that there are tuna below. And, do not overlook weed lines, floating debris and color changes. Bimini has lots to offer this month so head across the Stream for a great adventure.
