[dropcap]A[/dropcap]ugust is here, but it seems as though the summer diving just got started. And, before you know, it will be wetsuits again, but let’s not go there (LOL)!
We only want to focus on the fantastic diving found on the Island of Grand Bahama. Did someone say sharks? Yes, the shark dives on the island are awesome, and this is the time of the year to see all the new kids on the block. I’m talking about the pups that can be seen on Shark Alley and Pygmy Caves. No, not Potcake pups (Bahamian mixed breed dog), but those cute little three and four foot Caribbean reef shark pups!
They are so cute, skirting back and forth through the divers, curious about their new world and these strange looking creatures with all the color and shine of scuba equipment. It’s amazing how all youngsters, sharks and humans, are so inquisitive about their environment.
One female that we have been watching for the last four or five years, we call her Ms. Crypts because her pectoral fins are somewhat deformed, has a new pup, we suspect. He comes zooming in and out of our divers, bumping into fins in a playful, but curious manner until Ms. Crypts shows up, then all the young ones scurry off like bad little children caught pulling the cats tail!
All of these antics make for a glorious dive amongst the most majestic creatures we encounter daily. So, if you want to be amazed and thrilled at the same time, come to Grand Bahama for the dive of your life. And, if you join us at Sunn Odyssey Divers, we will make sure you get to see Ms. Crypts and all the new pups of Shark Junction.
