Daily rains have helped to improve conditions on the Kissimmee Chain. Water clarity has continued to improve but water levels have not. Most of the Bass are still on the deeper grass lines and open water. Look for this trend to continue until the canal project is completed. Senkos, Flukes and Topwater Plugs on the deeper grass lines can be deadly. 5’-6’ depths are preferable. The other bright spots are the canals and creeks. When the water is running this can be some of the best Bass fishing of the Summer months. Often times the water temperatures can be 15 degrees cooler than in the lake. The one drawback to fishing these areas are the yellow flys you wil encounter in backwater creeks. For these pesty little blood suckers I highly recommend a product called Sunsect. Sunsect is a sunscreen plus insect repellant that really does the job on yellow flys. It can be purchased at many local shops for about $8 a tube. The other bright spots for Bass fishing is Lake Rosalie and Lake Walk in Water. Water levels are approaching normal pool on these two lakes. Good numbers of 2-3lb Bass are being caught on the east and west sides of both lakes. Large trophy class Bass off the north and south banks of both lakes. Black and Blue Senkos, Watermelon Red Flukes are best on Lake Rosalie. Swimbaits and Swimjigs with a craw are best on Lake Walk in Water.
Speck fishing is still moderately good. It’s not likely you will catch limits of Specks but good size slabs can still be taken between 5am-10am and again between 6pm-9pm. Canal fishing for Specks should remain strong throughout the Summer. Slip cork rigs set at 7’-10’ with a minnow should work pretty consistent. For Lake Walk in Water and Lake Rosalie long line trolling in 12’-14’ of water should continue to produce large slabs.
Bluegills are biting well along the grass lines on Lake Kissimmee and areas of thick cup pads 3’-6’ of water on this type of cover should continue to produce all summer. Crickets and red worms are your best bet.
