“The Boys Town South Florida Ohana Salty Classic KDW Fishing Tournament was a huge success! We are grateful for all the support from our sponsors, partners, volunteers, and donors! Event proceeds benefit the children and families of Boys Town South Florida”, said Executive Director Bethany Lacey. The Ohana Salty Classic fundraising event was a great way to entertain and educate local community members about Boys Town services and how they strengthen children and families through life-changing care.
Comprised of two days of South Florida sun, fun, food, and fishing, the Ohana Salty Classic took place at the beautiful Sailfish Marina, located in Singer Island, Florida. Festivities began on Friday with a Kickoff Party and Captains Meeting. The International Game Fish Association (IGFA) partnered with the Ohana Salty Classic and hosted an interactive educational Kids Fishing Clinic where children learned about basic tackle, knot tying, conservation, environmental stewardship, casting, and angling safety. Each child participant received a fishing rod and reel donated by the Palm Beach County Fishing Foundation. Upon completion of the fun-filled class, the children headed to the south dock to test their fishing skills.
On Saturday morning, The Ohana Salty Classic officially began with ‘lines-in’ at 7 a.m., followed by eight competitive hours of saltwater sport fishing. As the afternoon heated up, Sailfish Marina was the place to be as the Salty Classic teams returned to the docks with their catch! A good crowd joined the interactive and exciting afternoon at the Salty Classic weigh-in. And the fun didn’t end there! A Hawaiian luau followed with a welcome by Boys Town South Florida’s Executive Director Bethany Lacey. While delicious food was being served, the Aloha Islanders put on a fun and interactive performance that had little ones and the young at heart dancing away! The event culminated with the presentation of tournament awards to top anglers. Complete with a prize-filled auction, Hawaiian hula dancers, flame throwers and fun music, the Salty Classic Hawaiian Luau was the perfect way to round out the eventful day. A big thank you goes out to our top sponsors including Florida Power and Light, Carlton Fields, RJM Homes, and Sailfish Marina. Also, thank you to our additional sponsors, partners, volunteers, and donors. Through our compassionate guidance and effective care, children and families find the strength to rise above their challenging circumstances and find a brighter future. With your help, reaching our goals is possible.
