If there’s one month that stands out as one of the best times of the year for catching big fish in our region, October quickly comes to mind. Fall brings some incredible fishing opportunities, with many of our most sought-after game fish fired up and feeding.

Snook, redfish, tarpon, and jack crevalle can all be found in good numbers this time of year, creating plenty of opportunities for nonstop, drag-peeling action. Whether you’re fishing around the inlets, bridges, docks, or other areas with heavy structure, paying attention to moving water can make all the difference.

A properly presented live bait or artificial lure is key, especially when targeting larger fish. Bigger natural baits such as pinfish, mullet, and blue crabs are excellent choices throughout the fall and can produce some impressive bites.

While the fishing is red hot in October, this time of year can actually be a slower stretch for many local fishing guides. That makes it a great opportunity to get out on the water, enjoy a little less pressure, and take advantage of some of the best fishing the fall season has to offer.

If you’ve been thinking about booking a fishing trip, October is hard to beat. From screaming drags and hard fighting fish to spending a day on the water with family and friends, it’s the perfect time to get out there and make memories that will last long after the season is over.
