Lake Nottely Striper Fishing Report: Oct 2013

by Josh Garrison
Striper
The water temperature is in the low 80s and falling. The lake is full, and the main lake is clear. The fishing on Lake Oconee during the month of October, in a word, is changing. It is fall, and the temperature is falling and the fishing will improve as the temperature drops.

The striper and hybrid fishing will be slow at the beginning of the month, but by the end of the month it will be good to very good. Live shad will be the bait of choice. Another good option is the Capt. Mack’s Umbrella rig. I use a 4-arm rig pulled 100 feet behind the boat at 3 mph. The middle of the lake is the area I will target.

Crappie fishing will be good all month. Use your Lowrance to locate the schools of fish. The beginning of the month the fish will be tight to cover. As the water cools, the fish will start to move into the mouths of the major creeks, like Lick and Rocky creeks. Live bait dropped into the schools will produce coolers full of fish.

This is a great time of year to be on the lake. The jet skis are gone, and the fishing is as good as the weather. If you would like get in on some great fall fishing.
