Spearfishing & Dive Report: Sept 2013

Conditions are back on track the thermocline has lifted with only a mild remnants. It was only here for a few weeks and it is back to looking good, vis has been 20 to 40 ft. The temps have been ~80 on top and ~70 on bottom. The season looks like it will continue to only get better and all we need to watch out for are the storms.

The Red Snapper opening in federal waters for the 3 day season (Aug 23, 24 and 25) has turned into a mini lobster season of its own. Is it not funny how we all are after not getting to keep a prized creature for a while. It is one per person and everyone with a boat will be on the water. The red snapper have been thick and seem to be everywhere all the time.

The flounder have been the staple but the cobia have been thinning with the water get warmer. The lobster have been the big draw at the reefs and now with that warming water the eggers should start to release. There have been a few grouper in shore but the deep waters are where they will be holding up. Good luck with your hunting and send us your reports.
