December is a wonderful time to visit Bimini. The fall winds subside and give way to cooler air and sunny blue skies. The island enjoys a nice volume of visitors without being overly busy, not to mention a festive holiday spirit in the air. A favorite dive site in December is The Victory Reef Wall. Starting at 65 feet and dropping to 110 feet before the big blue plunge, we most often drift here in clear blue waters. This pristine section is constantly fed by the Gulf Stream and you will see abundance and variety that rivals any site in this hemisphere. Look for large fish like jacks, wahoo, tuna, and sharks over the edge and out in the open water off the reef. Water temps are 75 degrees and visibility is spectacular. When not diving, this is a great time to explore the mangroves of Bimini. Most visitors are not even aware of this natural splendor, yet it is only a 20 minute kayak or paddleboard across the bay to the amazing rivers and canals flowing through a lush green forest. You will see starfish, stingrays, reef fish, turtles, and many wading and sea birds. Take a mangrove boat tour to the Healing Hole, natural lithium spring, and soak your cares away where generations of locals have found rejuvenation and relaxation.
Happy Holidays! We look forward to seeing you in the Biminis!
