The Bahamas enjoys waves of spring break vacationers as well as waves from the ocean in the month of March. The isle of Eleuthera hosts the Second Annual Pineapple Jam Music Festival March 24. Those looking for ‘the party’ as well as the waves might island hop into Nassau where droves of young people fill the cut-rate hotels and then onto Abaco, Eleuthera, Rum Cay or those “other” spots you’ve heard about. It’s a month where rooms fill up so call ahead! Oh yeah… the surf!
March usually maintains our winter swell pattern with medium to large size swells arriving from the north and east. The wind will generally blow a little longer and harder as the last few fronts of the season push through. But if January and February are any indication, expect some warmer than normal weather with accompanying calm winds, meaning glassy surf, folks! Mid-February did finally bring us a cold snap but water temperatures remain slightly above average. Pack a spring suit or good top for those plunges into mid-70 degree water that always make you go, ‘Brrrrr!’
