Bimini Offshore Fishing Forecast – June 2012

Well, summer is finally here, school is out and the seas are calm. With summer comes the peak of fishing in Bimini, the closest island to the South Florida mainland. Everyone will have their opportunities at whatever offshore species they are targeting, from yellowtail on the reefs to blue marlin in the deep. So far this season the sailfish and blue marlin bite has been spectacular, with multiple shots per day. This should continue throughout the summer, with June and July being peak months. I always recommend pulling at least one dredge. My dredge of choice is the Marlin Mag by Bluewater Candy, but for those who do not mind the work and expense you can make your own using dead mullet. I always put a naked ballyhoo or mullet right behind the teaser on the surface. The dolphin are showing up and will also be thick through June, as well. The yelloweye snapper and queens are still plentiful on the bottom; the best depth will be 600 to 700 feet of water, using squid. Some of the best fishing in Bimini can be found in June, so make your way over and take advantage.
