[dropcap]W[/dropcap]hile July always gives you the best opportunities for tuna, blue marlin and dolphin, the inshore wrecks seem to be the best bet for yellowtail and grouper.
If you’re looking to go offshore, you definitely want to set up two flat lines off the aft transom with trolling clips. Use a couple
of spinners with not more than 20-pound test and make sure your drag is not tight and keep a careful watch for that big bull dolphin. Make sure you keep them within 50 feet of the boat, right offff the prop wash. On the light tackle you’ll also pick up some tuna, since when trolling artificial lures they tend to be more skittish on the heavier monofilament.
June so far as given the better anglers a great dose of blue marlin, while holding on to their secrets the more inexperienced anglers have had a hard time hooking up so far. Capt. Deep drop continued to dominate the month of June and with temperatures in July expected to heat up, the deep drop seems to be a no brainer and has been very steady with great catches every time out. Electric reels are a must, as is fresh barracuda and squid. Don’t worry about your first strike, keep it steady, keep bouncing the sinker off the bottom and you’ll come up with two, three, four, or maybe five of the tastiest queens or yelloweye snappers you have ever had.
Mutton have been steady and seem to get better with every week, the key is fresh bait and plenty of chum; once the chum dries up, they are gone!
