Grand Bahama Dive Forecast – April 2013

We have finally entered spring time and the ocean is warming up. Visibility has kept constant through the winter and we do not expect major changes. Current has been above average, but the water movement should go back to normal for this month. As always, there is a varied selection of courses and dives available for those coming to Grand Bahama. We can never tire to suggest the shark dive, one of the signature dives of this island. In comfortable 45 feet of water, guests are lined up on the ocean floor along the length of an old wreck and are treated to a swirling of sharks, groupers, jacks, snappers and other creatures, including an old resident turtle and a friendly resident eel. One handler attracts a group of Caribbean reef sharks to swim in front, up and around everybody. It is always a great dive and opportunity to learn about shark behavior and conservation. Highly trained professionals staff your dive and are always willing to share their knowledge of sharks with you. If you, or someone you know, has a fear of these misunderstood creatures, this is a great opportunity to learn more and fear less. There is also a new Caribbean Reef Shark Awareness specialty course offered to those who have the desire to learn more. Inquire at your local dive store for information. Before or after the shark dive, you can always swim among these tranquil creatures and take advantage of pictures and memories of them swimming in their natural environment.
