March 3-5 on Great Sacandaga Lake
Each year a great local tradition will continue with Lou and Nancy of “Fuel and Food” in Mayfield/Gloversville holding their 19th Annual Ice Fishing Derby on Great Sacandaga Lake. This is more than your typical derby, it is a great get together of likeminded outdoormen who cherish their treasure “The Great Sacandaga Lake”.
For a small $25 entry fee, you will be eligible for all sorts of cash prizes and fishing equipment giveaways and drawings. Your entry includes a Pig Roast on Saturday at “Wally’s Driftwood Park” on Vandenberg Point Road in Mayfield, where the derby measuring station is located. The derby pays for the top 6 places for Walleye, Northern Pike, Trout and Perch, with additional prizes for non-game fish entries. This is a great venue for new arrivals to the area to become a “local”, or for other sportsmen from around Upstate NY join a tight-knit group of sportsmen and women who love the outdoors.
For those not familiar, Sacandaga Lake has a legendary population of Trophy Northern Pike, along with a healthy supply of walleyes, trout and good fishing for tasty yellow perch. The “Fuel and Food” crowd knows how to put on a great event, and invite The Angler Magazine readers to join them for some great fishing and comradery. WE ARE CONFIDENT THAT A GOOD TIME WILL BE HAD BY ALL!!
