The cold fronts are all but gone by now and the warmer flats have started to see the grey ghost of the flats in more abundance. They are feeding on the shallow flats more aggressively in the early mornings and afternoons. So with that knowledge, it is best to choose your fishing trip to coincide with the early morning and late afternoon tides. Along the structures close to shore you will start to find larger mangrove snappers and they are taking the fly without hesitation. We are seeing a large amount of ‘cudas on the flat with our largest catch almost at 48 inches. Yellowtail snapper have started to spawn so make sure you reef trip is done around the full and new moons. Daily bonefish catches have started to increase over the last month and all indications we will have another good bonefishing summer. For your summer bonefishing, adjust your fishing to early morning and late afternoon. Take the midday and relax. Enjoy all the island has to offer midday or just enjoy a Bahamian siesta. With the wind much lighter this time of year, you can go back to a lighter fly rod combo of a 7 weight or 6 weight for really light wind days with your usual flies in #6 and #8.
